Showtime has finally released a 44-second teaser trailer for the second season of Penny Dreadful, its Victorian-era Gothic horror series. Dreadful premiered earlier this year to a warm critical reception, particularly for Eva Green’s central performance as a clairvoyant.
The teaser trailer largely focuses on Green’s Vanessa Ives character who was revealed to be possessed by a demon at the end of the first season. We see only glimpses of the other major characters.
Green and the remainder of the series have largely been ignored during year-end television accolades. Emmy prospects are uncertain at this point, but a breakout second season could significantly alter its Emmy chances since it would air during the nomination window.
Showtime has not announced a premiere date for season two.
