Sinners Wins Again: Michigan Film Critics Break with the Herd

This year, film critics have formed a hive mind and chosen One Battle After Another for every major win. But one group in Michigan decided Ryan Coogler’s Sinners was the better film of the year and have handed it the year’s top prizes.

Sinners is not as simple as One Battle After Another, and most people see it as a vampire movie because they likely don’t know the story of Robert Johnson and the blues greats of the era. Coogler has invented his own genre with Sinners. It doesn’t fit into any box.
