According to the St. Louis Film Critics website, there are close to 40 members of the SLFC. 39, if I counted correctly.
So cool to see Aubrey Plaza getting a nomination for Safety Not Guaranteed. I loved her in that movie.
And of course some more Perks love is always welcome. Would be really friggin’ cool to see Emma get an Oscar nomination.
My blog link above is incorrect, btw. Soz!
“Django” looking better and better. I don’t know why AwardsDaily doesn’t put it in a better spot.
Also, no Spielberg for director???
What do these critics groups have against Leo DiCapro?
Phoenix and Detroit critics have also announced – links on my blog, just click on my name!
Beasts of thw southern wild is a much better film than life of pi . Beast sh received nominations for director adapted screenplay, supporting actor, cinematography and editing.
Well, at least St Louis saw Holy Motors, unlike the BFCA
Happy with any love The Cabin in the Woods gets. If it somehow got an Oscar nom for screenplay (I know it’s not happening), I would probably die.
Also, cool that they recognized Safety Not Guaranteed; such a fun movie.
I like when groups have a Best Scene category. Always interesting to see what scenes stand out to people.
Argo is fuckin overrated.
Fuck the nominations, I want to learn about Giant Schnauzer Chaffeurs. Probably cheaper than hiring Morgan Freeman to drive me around.
And thanks Christophe!
This anaesthesiology/surgery report is dull, though. I guess one takeaway is that if I am getting a heart transplant, I should not do it in an Earthquake zone.
No Leo!!!! Time for protest! 🙁
oh!!! I can’t wait for the BFCA nominations, since they’re always trying so hard to predict the Oscars each year 😀
I’m curious how they will handle BEST ACTRESS, definitely my favorite category this year 😉
Lynn, while we got you here, how many members do you have?
Sony Pictures Classics did not screen “Amour,” “West of Memphis” or “Rust and Bone” prior to nominations. We hear we might see “Amour” this week, but it is too late to consider except for our own Top Ten Lists.
We feel that Best Scene is something that sets us apart.
I’m proud of our organization, and I feel that we have a discerning group of members — film buffs, cinemaphiles and plain ol’ movie nuts.
“The Dark Knight Rises,” “The Sessions” and “Les Miz” were nominated in the initial round of critics’ votes, but did not make the 5/6(ties) cut. Naomi Watts was close for ‘The Impossible.” It happens. There are only so many slots and majority rules.
Sorry I meant @rufus
@rugus
They’re announcing LIVE on KTLA in 5 to 10 minutes:
http://tv.trb.com/extras/ktla/video/live-morningnews.html
Rumor has it, Lincoln leads with a record-breaking 13 noms, before Les Mis 11 noms and SLP 10 noms. Jlaw reaps 4 and Hathaway 3.
Lincoln not getting a directing (and cinematography) attention is profoundly ridiculous. It’s meticulous and inspired work that is the true master class in directing this year.
Apparently the BFCA nominations are being announced on Twitter here in less than 20 minutes.

not sure why they pick someplace so stupid
until then you can read about dead babies
Also glad to see Bully make the best doc list here!
I agree with Rodrigo. You can’t take these nominations seriously if they didn’t even CONSIDER Amour for Foreign Film. And what’s with those stupid ‘best scene’ nominations, it’s not the MTV awards.
Hope you’re right – it deserves something. As I always say, the films I love most are rarely nominated in any given year, for anything. Actually that’s not true, but it seems that way!
with all due respect, I don’t think Supporting Actress is wide open.
Hathaway (former nominee and big Hollywood name)
Field (Multiple Lead Actress Oscar winner, returning in a “big deal” film)
Hunt (Lead Actress Oscar winner, returning to the awards circuit)
and Adams (3 time nominee, a really big name as of the last 4 years)
all 4 are part of critically acclaimed films,
even though the first 7 Metacritics haven’t been especially nice to Les Miserbles (55/100);
Hathaway, Adams, and Field are already shining with critics awards.
I’d say a lot of names are fighting for that last spot, yeah
Cabin in the Woods was a comedy? WTF?
By far the strangest nominations so far (No Hoffman, but Willis?!). Nice to see all this love for Djagno though. Poor Leo, Waltz is being campaigned as supporting and taking his slot.
rufus, I’m watching Perks sometime this week but I’m predicting it gets in Adapted at the very least.
Lincoln
Silver Linings Playbook
Life of Pi
Argo
Perks of Being a Wallflower
sounds about right to me.
They also seemed to like Moonrise Kingdom and Perks of Being a Wallflower more than most groups.
The St. Louis critics don’t appear to like Les Miserables at all.
Lots of Django love here but no Leo…hmm.
I think Dowd is gonna sneak in there for supporting actress for the Oscars.
DOn’t get excited over Emma Watson.
I can guarantee you that the five nominated actresses will be
Anne Hathaway
Samantha Barks
Helen Hunt
Sally Field
Amy Adams
And if one should not make it, Ann Down might get a shot. We’ll find out in the next day or two if one of these are shaky, but I bet SAG and GG both will have this group of five.
Maybe it didn’t screen for them (Amour) It is St. Louis after all.
Like the best scene category, one of the more fun alternate categories in these awards.
Another Perks mention. I still think the best it can hope for is being the #6 Adapted Screenplay, which is a pile of nothing. Oh it burns me that Silver Linings will get a slot in that category!
wow emma watson is really picking up steam. who would of thought she’d of entered in this race. glad to see some more of mirren as im a huge fan and glad they included dowd!!:)
Wow… I’ve been seeing ‘Django Unchained’ and Christoph Waltz popping up on more and more critic’s lists, and ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ popping up on more and more critic’s lists in Adapted Screenplay as well as Emma Watson in Supporting Actress… With Supporting Actress wide open outside of Sally Field and Anne Hathaway, can Emma Watson sneak into the category at the Oscars?
Aubrey Plaza! Cabin in the Woods!
Thanks, St. Louis!
Ann Dowd (Compliance) shows herself again! could it be slowly happening?
Weirdest awards so far : apparently, they loved Django Unchained…but why not nominate Dicaprio ???
And how come Amour is not among best foreign movies ?
