Jazz Tangcay highlights the best of Jimmy Fallon and reminds us why there’s a lot to love
When Jimmy Fallon joined late night in 2009, he brought a fresh comedic genius to late night. Just this past year alone, Fallon took over Central Park and hosted his show in the open air, he recreated the entire video for Dead Or Alive’s You Spin Me Round, and he got the biggest boy band in the world – BTS to do a dance challenge.
Fallon it seems is up for anything, the question is are his guests? For The Tonight Show’s fifth anniversary, Robert De Niro wasn’t too pleased with roaches while filming a promo shoot. That episode also paid homage to The Larry Sanders Show by intercutting behind-the-scenes happenings during interviews.
When he’s not getting the cast of The Avengers to sing to Billy Joel or getting Michelle Obama to surprise visitors to 30 Rock, he’s shifting his entire show to Puerto Rico to raise awareness after the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria.
When Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda told Fallon he had been raising money for the victims of Hurricane Maria through Flamboyan Arts Fund, a non-profit he created to support the local arts community and he was going to bring his Broadway musical to Puerto Rico. Fallon wanted to lend his support and show everyone that Puerto Rico was open for business.
Fallon interviewed Miranda on the Hamilton stage, performed ‘The Story of Tonight’ and went ziplining in the special episode. It’s a moment Fallon looks back on fondly and says, “It was a game-changer for me, it changed my life.”
