The AARP has announced its Movies for Grownups nominations, which honor people over 50 doing well in film. Chloé Zhao and Ryan Coogler are not old enough to qualify, so no one should read much into their omissions, ditto Jessie Buckley and Timotheé Chalamet. On the other hand, some nice notices for those over-50 contenders who might not get love elsewhere, like Sigourney Weaver for Avatar: Fire and Ash, June Squibb for Eleanor, Jodie Foster for A Private Life, Gwyneth Paltrow for Marty Supreme, and Spike Lee for Highest 2 Lowest.
The Best Picture race has Hamnet and Sinners, though both are produced by over-50 (Steven Spielberg and Sam Mendes for Hamnet. They really did seem to like One Battle After Another, so that means it’s popular with both film critics and the AARP.

- Best Supporting Actress: Regina Hall (One Battle After Another), Amy Madigan (Weapons), Helen Mirren (Goodbye June), Gwyneth Paltrow (Marty Supreme), and Sigourney Weaver (Avatar: Fire and Ash).
- Best Supporting Actor: Benicio Del Toro (One Battle After Another), Delroy Lindo (Sinners), Sean Penn (One Battle After Another), Michael Shannon (Nuremberg), and Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value).
- Best Director: Paul Thomas Anderson (One Battle After Another), Kathryn Bigelow (A House of Dynamite), Scott Cooper (Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere), Guillermo del Toro (Frankenstein), and Spike Lee (Highest 2 Lowest).

- Best Documentary: Becoming Led Zeppelin, Cover Up, My Mom Jayne, Riefenstahl, Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost.
