Rooster Cogburn, card-carrying Socialist agitator?

We featured this first look at True Grit a few days ago, but if you missed the subliminal communist propaganda then you just weren’t looking close enough. AmericanThinker thinks something stinks:

One of the interesting decisions that was made during the filming of ‚ÄòTrue Grit’ was the placement of Rooster Cogburn’s famous eye patch. In the original film John Wayne wore the eye patch over his left eye which allowed him to view the world through his right eye as the Duke was inclined to do. According to HitFlix, in the remake Bridges covers his right eye leaving his left eye fully exposed, as a subtle reminder of where his ‚ÄòCrazy Heart’ resides.

Always happy to see right-wingers hand-wringing over silly shit like this. It’s a harmless reminder of how unhinged some of them can be. And when they’re always looking for liberal bogeymen under the bed it keeps them occupied — like patients kept pacified at the asylum twisting yarn into woven pot holders.

The only thing that makes a squirmy fuss like this remotely relevant is how it never hurts a movie’s image with the Academy to flaunt its progressive cred.

Newsbusters finds more proof of the Coens’ communist plot:
Too many of them gat dang hinky Hollywood types involved.

‚ÄòHollywood Libs Attempt Remaking a Classic’

The Duke’s portrayal of hard-drinking, one-eyed Marshall Rooster Cogburn has been a TV staple for decades [but] any movie with America-bashing lefty Matt Damon in an important supporting role is bound to be at odds with traditional takes on the American frontier.

The Coens’ quirky, absurd portraits of America couldn’t be much more different from any flick in John Wayne’s legendary career. And maybe that’s the point.

Those traditional takes on the western frontier famous for their ugly racial sterotypes and laughable gender inequality — maybe that’s another point. But we all love Jeff Bridges, right? Who doesn’t love The Dude?

Bridges is an admitted pot-smoker and marijuana legalization advocate.

uh-oh, here we go. He’s an “admitted” pot-smoker. Broke down and confessed, did he? But you’ve gotta appreciate his philanthropic work, right?

On his website, Bridges has a page dedicated to the End Hunger Network, a charity he helped establish… and advocates for massive government intervention.

“We can never end hunger through the wonderful work of local charities – like other western democracies, we must end hunger through governmental leadership. Charity is nice for some things, but not as a way to feed a nation. We don’t protect our national security through charities and we shouldn’t protect our families that way either.”

Circle the wagons, Corabeth! Here come the Marxists armed with food stamps and government cheese!

True Grit is apparently just a cess-pool of liberal ideologues:

Included in the cast are Josh Brolin, son of James Brolin and stepson of actress and liberal activist Barbara Streisand. Brolin and Damon, who play’s Glenn Campbell’s old role as LeBeuf, have collaborated before. They participated (along with Hugo Chavez pal Danny Glover) in a History Channel Miniseries based around the 1980 anti-American revisionist book, “A People’s History of the United States,” written by communist historian Howard Zinn.”

Seems the only way some conservative movie bloggers would be happy with this remake is if it starred Kelsey Grammer as Rooster Cogburn, Stephen Baldwin in the Glen Campbell role, and Patricia Heaton at Mattie Ross. Really, who else could ever live up to the Manly Man legend of John Wayne?

The Duke in his Daisy Dukes. Cute purse. What size slippers are those, 6-As?
