28 Responses for "Los Abrazos Rotos posters"
European film posters seem to often have so much color in them in a way that American ones don’t. And — of course — because this is for an Almodóvar film it has that extra punch. The distinctive facial expression . . . and the lips set one’s heart to thumping.
I agree about the colour in the posters. European ones often seem to have a real boldness about them – a fearless quality.
I now want to go back and revisit Penélope’s early performances, as ever since Volver – and now with VCB – I am absolutely lovin’ her great actress/film star combination! Los Abrazos Rotos will definitely be one to look forward to in ‘09…
I’m sorry, Ryan, but I am confused: what has this got to do with WATCHMEN?
I love posters and I love Almodóvar, so I should be loving this one. But I don’t.
I find it terribly boring when posters go the safe way by using a huge picture of the top billing name(s) on it. And this is the Almodóvar version of it: Penélope Cruz’s face + Almodóvar touch with color and pop references. It seems to me it’s screaming “this is another Almodóvar picture with Pe”. No references to the plot. I don’t know, I just think it’s lacking imagination (at first I thought it wasn’t the definite one, just the result of entering Cruz’s picture at the obamicon
)) . I guess I prefer more imaginative ones like this one:
http://www.megaron.gr/exhibitionsgr/TACONES%20LEJANOS.jpg
or this one:
http://xenical120mg.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/entretinieblas.jpg
(though I find this one imaginative, the whole design is too 80s (?). I haven’t seen this movie though, I guess I should check my nun issues
)
Anyway, trying to be positive, I do like that Penélope’s picture isn’t just upfront to the camera (as in Volver’s). It reminds me of those B series movies of the 50s/60s, in something like “Attack of the 50ft Academy Award Winner”.
Hunter, I think this Public Enemies trailer makes its first appearance in theaters on Friday — preceding Watchmen.
Sorry. Posting things in shorthand.
Instead of my usual too much information.
Here we have the official trailer of Los abrazos rotos/Broken Embraces….similar to the teaser….

The poster is so beautiful, intense and romantic. Maybe just like the movie. The poster of Volver, was also very strong, with Penelope.
And I agree, european posters are always more criative.
As for Penelope, she is already a star. The Sophia Loren and Anna Magnani of XXI century.
Here you have the COMPLETE official trailer for ‘Broken Embraces’:

Hmmmm seems only one person is hugging in every scene, or am I mistaken? hence “Abrazos Rotos” / Broken Embraces
Its Almodovar again on Talk To her / Bad Education mode, which is of course awesome, but I miss the Almodovar of Bad Habits; I miss the Almodovar of the transsexuals of Madrid.

another version or andy warhol….color and repetition. it’s an over-used look. andy was influenced by the writing of Gerte. Stein….repetition….such as a rose is a rose is a rose.
nice type though
As much as I worship at the Almodóvar shrine, I couldn’t stomach “Mala Educación.” It truly rubbed me the wrong way (I found it exploitive and contrived).
Now, “Law of Desire,” “Women on the Verge…,” “Volver,” “Todo Sobre Mi Madre,” “Hable Con Ella” and “Tie me up! Tie Me Down!” are absolute masterpieces.
I’m delighted Cruz is working again with Pedro. They make a fantastic duo.
Talk to Her, All About My Mother, Law Of Desire, Bad Habits, Volver, Bad Education, Women On The Verge… the man is so far ahead i his craft. Love it!

i wana cry… rodrigo prieto’s cinematography looks stunning…
Doesn’t anyone else find this hack pretentious as hell? A film by Almodovar. ohhh how europeannnn, ohhhh you’re only using your last name. LOFL.
Dion:
No.
“Doesn’t anyone else find this hack pretentious as hell? A film by Almodovar. ohhh how europeannnn, ohhhh you’re only using your last name. LOFL.”
Dion dear, your comment is too American
Fabulous!
@ Dion
ummm…no
Dion,
as a film by
Spielberg
Tarantino
whom are also mentioned by their last names, is also pretentious?
We have a saying here, translating it to english goes something like this:
“Now you just lost a golden opportunity to keep your mouth shut”.
T.
You don’t see, a film by “Spielberg”. You see. Un film de almodovarrr” ohhhh sounds sooo out there. *rolls eyes*
Following the tradition of Oscar followed by disappointments, I’m guessing both Penelope Cruz chances this year won’t translate into reality… So, I’m thinking The Broken Embraces and Nine might disappoint – anyways expectations are so high – and I’m looking more to Amenabar’s Agora which silently is still there, without over the top expectations… but Cruz as double nominee on 2009 would be… amusing.
Beautiful Penélope in this photo album for a Spanish newspaper:
http://www.elpais.com/videos/cultura/PAIS/SEMANAL/Penelope/Cruz/Pedro/AlmodOvar/Oscar/elpvid/20090306elpepucul_3/Ves/
IMHO I think Almodóvar has already developed his very own cinema, so, Un film de Almodóvar should be seen as a trademark; plus, it’s not like he’s starting to do it right now, it’s been a while he uses it.
About Penélope, my heart is torn, I’m really happy she got the Oscar but, OTOH it will make it harder a nice recognition of his works this year (if she finally deserves that recognition). Penélope winning an Oscar for a role in any Pedro’s film would be the best for me, well, that and Pedro himself receiving the Best Director award from Paul Thomas Andersson’s hands
Almodovar posts on his blog about “Rotos” are quite interesting. No spoilers, but some juicy thoughts about the concept of the movie, about Deborah Kerr, “The Night of Iguana”, Alice Munro influence on the screenplay, the music … And the texts appears in three languages. Very cool.
Amazing!!!!
almadovar, dion, has made some of the funniest comedies ever.
