Star Wars Rogue One Premieres in Los Angeles – Universally Loved Already

All of the finest were out in their Star Wars finery to celebrate an arm of the new series reboot. It is generally hard to judge a film based on reviews that come out of premieres. Everyone is primed to feel good about the experience so even if the film is remotely good the experience will be heightened. The idea here was to supercharge the opening to make the kind of money the last Star Wars movie made, which was the most any film has ever made domestically (not adjusted for inflation). No sooner was that film in the can did the hype for the new one start up again. But hey, at the end of the day, they are providing entertainment for people who need it. Surely that’s worth a few bucks.

Here are a few tweets:

The last time I loved a Star Wars movie as much as I loved #RogueOne, it was 1977.

It’s so AMAZING how #StarWars #RogueOne ties into #ANewHope!! GREAT SURPRISES & many “HOW’D THEY DO THAT?” moments!! 100% FUN! Great ACTION!

Star Wars fans will be very happy with #RogueOne. It’s fun, action packed, doesn’t feel neutered by reshoots. Donnie Yen and K2so standouts.

— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) December 11, 2016

While the film might be among the last gasps representing the dying Obama coalition and generation (except if only the millennials had realized what they had in Obama – now they will), it caught the attention of a pro-Trump street artist too in a bizarre and grotesque way to totally and utterly miss the point of not just the original Star Wars but Rogue One. These films are the antithesis of Trump and everything Trump stands for.  The art and the commentary sit clumsily like relics from Hitler’s Germany. The only people who sold their souls were those who were stupid enough to s believe that a guy who shits on a gold toilet (literally) is a man of the people. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite so sad as this so called art.
