Look, you can trash the Astras all you want, but from where I sit, there isn’t much of a difference between any of these awards now that they’ve all been fundamentally transformed as something other than what they once were. We’re essentially looking at a consensus vote of like-minded people, and if the Academy voters are like-minded as the Astras (they probably are), then you can’t complain too much about them. I mean, unless you’re also complaining about the entire awards race – a snake eating its own tail. But I digress.
For whatever it’s worth, Wicked swept the Astras last year and dominated the nominations.

Additionally, the Hollywood Creative Alliance announced last week the nominees for the Astra Creative Arts Awards. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners received the most nominations of any film submitted, earning a total of eleven nominations. Wicked: For Good closely followed with ten nominations, while Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein rounded out the top three with nine. The Astra Creative Arts Awards will be its own ceremony that will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
