2025 Golden Globe Predictions

Update: added Best Actress, Musical/Comedy. Sorry about that.

I assembled a few of our Gate Crashers to lay down our predictions for Sunday’s Golden Globes. The truth is that any film an win and it’s probably not wise to read too much into how they turn out. We only have last year to go off of since they expanded their membership from 90 to 300. We don’t much about them. But we might get a consensus that will help us find who the frontrunners will be. At this moment in time, your guess is as good as mine.

Then there is the money/publicity factor. If Jay Penske owns the Golden Globes and also Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Indiewire, and Gold Derby – that tells me that the awards game is mostly over. It’s back where it was when I started, which was in the hands of the trades with not a lot of dissent to be had. Getting paid and played by the studios is nice work if you can get it. Basement dwelling n’er do wells can make a decent living just by hyping the films that land in the race.  So we have no idea what to expect.

But what the hell, we laid down our picks anyway. The participants this time are:

Yours Truly
Christian Toto
Chris Gore
Michael Grei
Ed Douglas
“Industry Guy”
Scott Kernen
Jeff Wells

Probably the wins won’t go this way. There are several narratives that could play out. But there are a few questions we need to answer, like will Angelina Jolie win at the Globes despite being left off BAFTA’s list? Did they love The Brutalist enough to give Brady Corbet either Picture, Director or Screenplay? Does it go home empty handed? How well do they like Anora? Wicked? Will Emilia Perez win more awards besides Supporting Actress? We really don’t know at this point. It’s all just a guess. I took a few chances here just for the fun of it.

Here is how they came out all together:
