2026 Oscars: Contenders Bringing the Glam to the Governors Awards

The Governors Awards have become like one big FYC ad for movies and contenders to mingle with the Academy and show themselves off. It can make a difference for contenders who are on the bubble. For instance, Jennifer Lawrence’s film Die My Love is painful to sit through and the critics lied about it. Oscar voters will soon find out. However, mingling with the ever so charming Lawrence might make them jot her down on their ballots anyway. That’s how it works.

The honorees were Tom Cruise, Debbie Allen, Wynn Thomas and not present, Dolly Parton. It was a cold and rainy day in Los Angeles, not exactly ideal weather for something like this but the pros turned out and many of the major contenders were there, some were not. Sometimes it feels to me like the only glamour left in Hollywood is because the Academy preserves it. They preserve it with the Governors Awards and the Oscars themselves, even if so much of Hollywood now is no longer glamorous. We know too much about what these celebrities think and thus, they aren’t blank canvases upon which to project our dreams.

One of the people who avoids that is Tom Cruise, who has always put his fans and audiences first and that is why he’s the GOAT. It’s good they gave him an honorary Oscar but man, the dude’s career isn’t over yet. He has more work in him, I figure. I hope. Here are some pictures from the event.
