Entertainment Tonight has the first glimpse of Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in Revolutionary Road. You had me at the very first upper register piano pling. Thanks to K and Dorothy at Inside the Gold for catching this to share.

I can’t wait for a better quality one. Also, the trailer for “Doubt” is up at Apple in HD.

  2. Dorothy Porker September 12th, 2008 at 4:24 pm 2

Running over to Apple! This is getting to be too much. My smelling salts!

  3. Tufas September 12th, 2008 at 4:34 pm 3

    I’m calling it:

Leo and Kate . Actor and Actress in a Leading Role noms

    T.

  4. Dorothy Porker September 12th, 2008 at 4:38 pm 4

Tufas, I’d simply die. That would be the best Oscar night present since…well, since Marion’s triumph :)

  5. RRA drove into the ditch on Revolutionary Road September 12th, 2008 at 4:41 pm 5

Wouldn’t shock me if Winslet finally wins her Oscar for this one.

  6. Gentle Benj September 12th, 2008 at 4:47 pm 6

If Kate Winslet wins an Oscar this year, I’m going to drain my glass and probably kiss everyone. Fair warning.

  7. k September 12th, 2008 at 4:49 pm 7

    I’m with you there, Dorothy.

  8. vagabond September 12th, 2008 at 4:58 pm 8

Hmmm. Looked a bit like an outtake from “Mad Men.”

  9. dela September 12th, 2008 at 4:59 pm 9

It will probably come down between Streep and Winslet at the Oscars.
BTW Kate and Leo pairing is one of the best in recent years.

  10. Alfredo September 12th, 2008 at 5:02 pm 10

color me there! I can’t freakin wait. Really superb acting from both in these little glimpses. The hushed arguing…the looks of despair…I’m sold

  11. Matt Loewen September 12th, 2008 at 5:05 pm 11

I don’t know… from the trailer, it doesn’t really sound like the film has the novel’s very passionate, yet very quiet and stealthy voice. It sounds like a typical melodrama, and I don’t think that’s a good thing.

I really hope something else comes out that proves me wrong. Preferably the movie.

  12. Bernardo S September 12th, 2008 at 5:05 pm 12

    Winslet looks aw3esome

  13. Free September 12th, 2008 at 5:44 pm 13

Coming from the perspective of someone who had doubts about this, this looks pretty damn good.

  14. elessar September 12th, 2008 at 7:47 pm 14

Dangit! The picture’s no longer available!

Is it just me, or did the movie gods suddenly open the fall trailer floodgates? Milk, Changeling, The Soloist, Doubt, and now Revolutionary Road all in the space of a week!

That just leaves The Reader and The Road, I believe.

I can’t be sure w/o the trailer, but I think Winslet stands a strong chance of snagging Best Actress this year. Leo’s chance will come with Shutter Island.

  15. Ryan Adams September 12th, 2008 at 8:07 pm 15

Replaced the unavailable clip with another one. But can’t guarantee how long it stays online. [Anyone who doesn't catch this second attempt can email me.]

  16. Mimi Rogers September 12th, 2008 at 10:45 pm 16

I’m not convinced that this is Best Picture material.

  17. The Third Man September 12th, 2008 at 11:20 pm 17

I really wish Mary Hart would shut up so I can enjoy the trailer.

I agree with the comparisons to Mad Men. It’s interesting that we’re all of a sudden looking back to the illusions of the late 50s.

As for its Oscar chances, at this point I’m finding it hard to believe that I’ll see a movie that I want to win more than The Dark Knight. That said, some acting noms seem hopeful.

  18. KarenA September 13th, 2008 at 12:05 am 18

oh Leo. oh Kate. I just love seeing them together. The only thing that I don’t embrace about Revolutionary Road is that Sam Mendes is the director, but these two: *sigh*.

Leo is so handsome. Kate, so lovely. Such wonderful actors. They are perfect together.

  19. Daniel September 13th, 2008 at 12:36 am 19

I was really looking forward to this but the trailer seemed a bit…bland.
I dunno, suddenly I’m not quite as sold as I was before.

  20. Harry September 13th, 2008 at 2:34 am 20

Looks good on paper. The trailer bores me.

  21. Ben September 13th, 2008 at 3:58 am 21

Na, this clip bored me. Love Kate, though.

  22. Friedl September 13th, 2008 at 9:31 am 22

    Oh wow.
    Kate…
    & Leo…
They have grown so much as actors since… that last movie they were in. Can’t wait. This looks fantastic. I disagree – dsn’t look anything like a typical melodrama, & think its the perfect vehicle for Sam Mendes.

    Great trailer soundtrack too!

  23. RRA is a Jarhead September 13th, 2008 at 10:13 am 23

Why the hatred on Sam Mendes?

Yes he’s not as high on my list as say a Fincher or a Nolan or Ridley Scott or Spielberg or whatever, but Mendes has overall shot each time some good shit.

Did AMERICAN BEAUTY deserve the Oscar? That’s up to debate, and I say probably not, but it was a well-shot picture regardless.

ROAD TO PERDITION was pretty good too, who’s only crime was that despite the Oscar-hype, it wasn’t as great as people expected or hope.

Ditto with JARHEAD, who had the gaul to be a movie about the war in Iraq that 99% of which wasn’t a Bush-Bash fest, which pissed off most journalists and critics I’m sure. They’re still waiting on their definitive political cinema statement.

As for REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, I’m sure at least it will be worth-while and hey, it’s Leo and Winslett again, except instead of a teen throb and a respected rising young actress, its Scorsese-manned up DiCaprio and mature well-respected British Meryl Streep for our time.*

*=Yet no Oscar yet for her. “Yet”

  24. Johnny September 13th, 2008 at 10:30 am 24

Sorry but thrailer soo bad like sheet …… the websites give this movie more than what look

  25. Noah R. September 13th, 2008 at 11:15 am 25

I look forward to a trailer without Mary Hart yacking all the way through. I read the book in high school and enjoyed it very much. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before in films but it does look solid. And DiCaprio and Winslet look like they’re worth the price of admission alone.

  26. LoyalT September 13th, 2008 at 11:49 am 26

    I just love Kate… whatever she’s in I’m in!!!
Oh and I love the Nina Simone song they play with this… seems heartbreaking

  27. Leone September 13th, 2008 at 12:23 pm 27

Having read the book, the trailer seemed to capture the longing of the book in what looks to be two of the finest performances of the year. Not sure I understand the hesitancy on Sam Mendes direction – it’s a trailer – so we have to wait. But actors’ performances don’t just materialize, they need to be directed and edited and I would imagine that directing one’s spouse would inspire a director to be at the top of his game. And a look at IMDB makes me even more confident – Mendes put together a hell of a good below-the-line team including Roger Deakins for cinematography, Kristi Zea for production design, Albert Wolsky for costume design and 8-time Oscar nominee Thomas Newman for the score…. I anticipate that this is going to be a beautifully made picture that will very much be in the Oscar discussion. Certainly after the bombardment of Oscar-y trailers in the past week or so, it will be tough competition — but there’s no doubt in my mind that when you take a book like Revolutionary Road and make a movie with the best actors and artists in the business, you should end up with something worthy of at least being a major part of the conversation. I just hope that the film is faithful to the book and doesn’t go Hollywood on us! The book was so good – if you haven’t read it, you have to. I wish the trailer had shown some more of the supporting cast like Kathy Bates and Michael Shannon, two very intriguing characters in the book…. I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE.

  28. jjj September 13th, 2008 at 12:58 pm 28

What will hurt this movie’s chances is, there have been too many movies these days about suburban displease, just look at American Beauty, The Hours, In the Bedroom, Little Children, Far From Heaven, even Notes on a Scandal.

  29. Sid September 13th, 2008 at 4:54 pm 29

Where the fuck was Kathy Bates?

  30. Dorothy Porker September 13th, 2008 at 5:43 pm 30

Nina Simone singing “Wild is the Wind” gave the trailer a fantastic undercurrent of both longing and dejection.

  31. Demetrius September 13th, 2008 at 6:28 pm 31

During Kate’s many speeches in this trailer…why wasn’t the camera actually on her? Made me flash back to the Lopez/Redford flick…

  32. Daniel September 13th, 2008 at 10:23 pm 32

“Where the fuck was Kathy Bates?”
Wait…yeah. I’m thinking the same thing now.

  33. Zach September 13th, 2008 at 11:12 pm 33

Kate has a better chance for The Reader because it’s a meatier, transformative turn. Unless it goes supporting. Meh, RR and Doubt both look under-whelming, though I realize it is early. Too early perhaps to be *expecting* a Winslet-Streep showdown, as fun as that would be?

Someone else must be waiting in the wings…

  34. Marcie September 13th, 2008 at 11:35 pm 34

I guess the reason why kathy was not in the trailer, cause she had a small role. In all, the book only mentioned her a few times, not really a major character.

  35. Pierre de Plume September 14th, 2008 at 1:56 pm 35

My suspicion is that this film will have a broader and more popular appeal than films such as Little Children, American Beauty, Far From Heaven, The Hours, etc. I don’t mean to attack you, jjj — it’s just that right from the start — with Kate and Leo in the lead roles — the public will be very curious to see them teamed again, especially in a story that’s not only more contemporary than Titanic but also one that evokes an era that seems to be sparking people’s interest at the moment.

  36. Elizabeth September 14th, 2008 at 11:39 pm 36

One of my most anticipated of the year. Kate and Leo are terrific actors and I have never been disappointed by Sam Mendes.

But God do I hate when ET shows trailers. They talk straight through them basically repeating the lines we’re about to hear. Drives me nuts.

  37. Matt September 22nd, 2008 at 6:47 pm 37

Eh, I didn’t like it that much. I mean it could be better then it looks. But looks nothing like what I expected this movie to be!
Also isn’t anyone else tired of dark dramas always taking home the prize?

  38. Karen September 27th, 2008 at 2:27 pm 38

Re: Resemblence to Mad Men. The producer of Mad Men has said the novel Revolutionary Road was very influential to his creation of the series, so no coincidence.

  39. Daniel Ivandjiiski December 31st, 2008 at 8:06 pm 39

Sam Mendez at his best… In many ways adopted to be American Beauty 2 but with a distinct taste of its own. Thomas Newman score is haunting days after seeing movie
